XXI. Guide d’artista is a long-term editorial process involving artists, curators and readers in an initiative that aims to provide an interpretation of Italian contemporary landscape through the artists' sensibility.
A new series of books to reveal an unknown or forgotten geography and build an alternative path of exploration to traditional tourist itineraries, through the artist's research and gaze.
Twenty artist’s guides corresponding to the twenty regions of Italy, in which each artist, will guide us in a discover of its region of provenance through its personal point of view.

1 / Toscana. La Mappa dell'Abbandono
2018

The first volume of the series XXI. Artist's Guides, dedicated to Toscana, ‘translates’ the digital project La Mappa dell'Abbandono into a paper-based format, an artist’s guide structured on two reading levels: six itineraries accompany the reader through about 40 of the most interesting places that have been mapped, while the lightweight pages represent the artist’s notebook, with superimposed personal annotations and sketches that can be read simultaneosly with the printed text. 

2 / Puglia. Villaggio Cavatrulli
2019

The second volume of the series XXI. Artist's Guides, dedicated to Puglia, explores the region through the research of Bari-based artist Fabrizio Bellomo. In Bellomo's vision, the same residual forms, the same hollows left by the millennia-long mining of tuff and Lecce stone acquire the value of open-air architectures that sculpt in the artist's imagination the possibility of creating a new stone space to be populated, the Villaggio Cavatrulli. 

3 / Friuli Venezia Giulia. Regimazione di acque e cuccioli di drago
2023

The third volume of the series XXI. Artist's Guides, dedicated to Friuli Venezia Giulia, examines water as a common thread to delineate the boundaries and paths of his region: through this moldable and shaping element, a landscape continually transformed by natural and man-made events is composed, in an attempt to capture the elusive complexity of the natural, private 'mental map' reflecting the relationship with one's environment.
