Pafos European Capital of Culture

created together with Ivana Radovanovic during the Art Twins program promoted by Pafos European Capital of Culture 2017.

A work created to underline the necessity of a contemporary dialogue between history and identity within Pafos area, where most of the old traces have been destroyed to make space for new real estate investments.
 

Spera
Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Park, Tainan, Taiwan 2016

Spera is a tribute to the site's history. Tsung-Yeh was the old headquarter of the Japanese Meiji Sugar Manifacturing Corporation, during the period of Japanese colonization of Taiwan, exactly the place where all the decisions and directions about the sugar's industry were taken.
A work made with sugar canes to celebrate and to emphasize the function that this place conducted for many decades contributing to the develop of the south of Taiwan. But at the same time the metaphor of the slowly decline that the sugar industry faced after the end of WWII, indeed the sculpture slowly vanished while the sugar canes got dry and the grass grew.

The choice of using the typical hats 斗笠 – used mostly by farmers and fishermen - becomes the artists’s “language” to speak with locals, underlining the necessity of a dialogue between history and identity in a contemporary way, especially in such a location like the A zone (an old japanese vinery), nowadays used as a touristic attraction.

Starting from the relation between art, nature and space - meant as the resultant of landscape, territory and environment - the artist has identified the three main elements of the reserve: the stone, the water and the memory.
On this triad is founded the work that, through the stone’s abrasion and polish, is metaphorically repeated the ancient gesture that the devotees make in the Eremo di San Venanzio: the body’s rubbing on the stone in order to have benefits from the stone itself. 

The engraving on the smooth part of the stone says “gutta cavat lapidem”, literally "the waterdrop perforates the stone". Through the Ovidio’s phrase the artist proposes a silent contact with the natural and socio-cultural context of this territory. 

Pantha Rei 
Shezi Daotou Park, Taipei, Taiwan, 2015

created for the 10th Guandu International Outdoor Sculpture Festival in collaboration with the community of Shezi in Taipei.

The sculpture is placed at Datou Park, precisely where Tamsui and Keelung River converge.
Based on the shape of the Möbius band, the intervention is a tribute to the rivers' tides, a monument to the encounter of the two rivers, and an homage to the act of flowing into one another.

Inspired by local industrial archeology, historical memories and local indifference, the intervention is na homage to the forgotten symbol of the city, the old smokestack of the industrial area Lapietra.
